The Naga Sadhus became the centre of attraction during the last Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh 2025, captivating a sea of devotees with their remarkable display of discipline, traditional rituals, and martial arts. Their unique presence on the banks of Triveni, combined with their ancient traditions, left spectators in awe. The Shobha Yatra of the Akharas, organized for the Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, was a spectacular sight. Almost 10 million people took a holy dip in the cold waters at the Triveni Sangam in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj in their bid to seek forgiveness for their sins, marking the first 'Amrit Snan' (royal bath) of the ongoing Maha Kumbh, on Jan 14. The Maha Kumbh, the biggest religious congregation in the world, is held after a gap of 12 years in Prayagraj, attracting pilgrims from India and across the globe.

Christmas: Kolkata cake shop bakes for over 200 years

Ajmeri's Bakery in Bowbazar, Kolkata is catering to the people for over 200 years in the city with a massive British colonial legacy. Besides their famous fruit cakes, they are churning out items with Nolan Gur and Chhena (Indian Cottage Cheese). The shop is run by the eighth generation of the family and all cakes are baked in wooden-fired ovens in keeping with European Christmas traditions, adding to the flavour of the delectable goodies. Naseeruddin Shah, MK Raina pay tribute to theatre legend Habib Tanvir on 100th birth anniversary in Kolkata

‘Dekh Rahe Hain Nayan’, a three-day theatre festival at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), began on Aug 30 to celebrate the works of theatre legend Habib Tanvir. From theatre and movie stalwarts like Naseeruddin Shah to thespian MK Raina, actors Raghubir Yadav, Ratna Pathak Shah and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra along with writer-editor Anjum Katyal, who is on research and documentation, paid tribute to Tanvir on the inaugural day. The festival is an ode to  one of the most influential playwrights and poets of post-independent India on his 100th birth anniversary. Tanvir's oeuvre at KCC is designed to include a diverse range of events, ranging from exhibition, masterclasses, panel discussions, film screenings and dramatic readings to dastangoi, musical and theatrical performances.
