Women and children were part of the protesters who recently demonstrated against prolonged electricity load-shedding in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The protest disrupted normal life in the region.

Most areas in the region have been enduring 22 hours of outages in a day for a long time. People of Kashrote Gilgit area, including women and children, took to streets against prolonged outages, reported Pakistan's newspaper Dawn News.

During the protest, enraged people, carrying banners inscribed with their demands, were seen shouting slogans against the government.

They even blocked Park Link Road and burnt tyres.

Later, the protesters marched to the River Road near GB Chief Minister’s House, held a protest rally there and blocked the road, the newspaper reported.

Due to the demonstration, vehicular traffic on the River Road remained suspended for five hours.

Protesters said children could not study for hours due to power outage in the locality.

They alleged VIP people were provided electricity for 24 hours with special lines.

“There is no electricity in the general public area for 22 hours a day and no relevant authority is ready to take notice of this unbearable situation,” a resident of the area told Dawn News.

He demanded at least 10 hours of electricity supply.
