Kabul, Aug 4 (Sputnik/UNI) At least three Afghan soldiers were killed and five others injured as a result of an attack on an outpost on the Afghan-Tajik border staged by the Taliban Islamist movement, the governor of the Chah Ab District, Saifuddin Mushtaq, told Sputnik on Sunday.

"The Taliban stormed an Afghan border forces outpost, named Semti, in Chah Ab District along Tajikistan border, killing three border police officers and wounding five others," the district governor said.

He added that the fighting had erupted on late Saturday and continued until Sunday morning.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident yet.

Afghanistan is suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to the activity of the Taliban and Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia). The Afghan-Tajik border is one of the most popular routes for drug traffickers, who are using the instability to boost their positions in the region.
