North Waziristan, Pakistan/IBNS: Students of a government-run primary school in Pakistan's North Waziristan staged a protest demonstration against the shortage of teachers on Friday, according to local media reports.

Besides holding protests at the school in Saifullah Kot Malik Shahi area, the students also warned to stage a sit-in on the main Razmak-Miramshah Road if the teachers were not posted to the school, reports the Dawn newspaper.

The Pak media outlet reported the students demonstrated outside the school building dressed in the black militia school uniform, while a majority of the students were wearing plastic slippers, and a few of them were without any footwear, which showed their poor financial condition.

The students chanted slogans against the education department for not posting teachers to the school, reports the Dawn.

The school currently has only two teachers for 325 students, including 125 girls, the Pakistani daily reported.

“Despite cold weather conditions, we regularly come to school from distant areas, but a shortage of teachers in the school is wasting our precious time,” a student was quoted saying by the Dawn.

The newspaper reported quoting a local elder, Malik Khalid Rehaman, that the shortage of teachers had been brought into the notice of the high-ups of the education department time and again, but they failed to appoint the required number of teachers to the school.
