Shia Ulema Council members ask to form inclusive government in Afghanistan
Kabul: The Shia Ulema Council has asked for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan which will also include Shia Muslims and other minority members to be represented properly.
Ayatullah Salehi Mudaras, a member of the Shia Ulema, told Tolo News: “Our demands should be taken seriously. We want honorable officials, Jafari Jurisprudence (Shia school ) should be recognized.”
“Nobody should be deprived of his or her political and sectarian rights We want equal opportunity, without discrimination," Mohammad Akbari, a member of the Shia Ulema, was quoted as saying by the news agency.
Hameed Muhsini, a member of the council, said: “ For the duration of their government, they ( Taliban ) need nation-building. As we have heard, there is disagreement within the Taliban, this caused us to be concerned. They should solve the problem.”
The Taliban has named an all-male caretaker government where the interior minister of the team Sirajuddin Haqqani was found in the wanted list of the FBI, the principal federal law enforcement agency of the USA, media reports said.
The leadership unveiled on Tuesday is drawn entirely from Taliban ranks, despite promises of an inclusive cabinet, and many of its senior figures are on UN sanctions lists, which is likely to complicate the group’s search for international recognition, reports The Guardian.
The Taliban on Tuesday announced that UN-sanctioned leader Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund will head their new government in Afghanistan while key positions will be held by the movement's top officials.
Making the announcement, Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a press conference that the group's co-founder Abdul Ghani Baradar will be the deputy leader.
Mullah Yaqub, the son of the Taliban founder and late supreme leader Mullah Omar, has been named the defence minister.
The Taliban took over the South Asian country on August 15.
No women were named in the government.
