Pakistani leader Rehman Malik shifted to ventilator as COVID-19 complications worsens

Islamabad: Senior Pakistani political leader Rehman Malik has been shifted to an intensive care unit (ICU) and put on a ventilator after his coronavirus symptoms have gotten worse, media reports said on Wednesday.

Senator Sehar Kamran confirmed the development and tweeted: "Prayers for speedy recovery, good health and long life of @SenRehmanMalik sahib, he is now quite serious due to #Covid, admitted in ICU Shifa, currently on ventilator."

Pakistan registered 6,047 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Wednesday.

During the same period, 29 people died due to the viral infection.

The NCOC said that the country's number of confirmed cases has increased to 1,436,413 while 1,304,980 out of them have recovered.

The active cases dropped to 1,02,103 after 9,590 patients recovered on Tuesday.

There are 1,559 patients in critical condition and being treated at intensive care units in different hospitals of the country, news agency Xinhua reported.

According to reports, 29 people died due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, increasing the overall death toll to 29,330.

Pakistan's southern Sindh province is the most-affected region of the country in terms of the number of cases with 544,722 infections.
