Islamabad: The Sindh government has decided to impose a lockdown from Saturday till Aug 8 amid the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, media reports said on Friday.

The decision was taken during a provincial coronavirus task force meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday, reports Dawn News.

According to a handout issued by the CM's office, restrictions will remain in place till August 8. However, businesses associated with the export sector will be allowed to operate, the newspaper reported.

During the lockdown imposition, there will be a ban on inter-city travel and all markets will remain closed.

However, pharmacies will remain open.

Pakistan has registered 23,295 deaths due to COVID-19 so far.
