At least nine members of a family, which included a mother and her eight children, died after the roof of their house collapsed in Pakistan's Abbottabad region on Sunday.

The house reportedly collapsed after a fire broke out following a short circuit.

The roof of the kucha (mud) house collapsed in Abbottabad's Tahari village due to a fire caused by a short-circuit after which nine family members were trapped under the rubble, rescue officials told Geo News.

Locals initially pulled out seven bodies from the rubble.

Later bodies of all the victims were recovered.

Rescue 1122 Emergency Officer Hafeezur Rehman told Dawn News that the head of the family, Zakir Abbasi, was in Karachi when the incident took place.
