Islamabad: A large number of Pakistani people have purchased cryptocurrency worth $5 crores in just six months, causing the country's investigative agency to look into the matter, media reports said.

At least 1,064 people belonging to various private banks and foreign exchange firms carried 2,923 transactions worth billions of Pakistani rupees, according to  Pakistan vernacular media as quoted by ANI.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started searching for investors and for investors and funders and as many as 1,054 accounts have been frozen, ANI reported.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) last month revealed  that Pakistanis possessed cryptocurrency worth around $20 billion, reports The News International.

Addressing a press conference, FPCCI President Nasir Hayat Magoon had said, "As per our research, Pakistanis have cryptocurrency worth $20 billion."

He had urged the government to devise a comprehensive policy so that people could cash the cryptocurrency in Pakistan instead of Dubai.
