Kathmandu/Xinhua: A landslide occurred in western Nepal on Saturday has killed eight people, and a total of nine people were buried.

The landslide happened at Durlung-3, Kushma Municipality of Parbat district, and and rescue operation is still on to rescue one missing person.

"Three dead bodies were recovered on Saturday after the landslide swept two houses whereas rest of the five bodies were recovered on Sunday," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bishwaraj Adhikari. "There were six and three members each in the families hit by the landslide."

He said that the houses were completely buried by the landslide.

The incident took place at about 9:00 p.m. local time due to the heavy rain.

"Teams of Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force and Red Cross have been carrying out the rescue operation at the site," Ram Chandra Joshi, mayor at Kushma Municipality told Xinhua on Sunday, adding that the rescue will be easier since the rain has stopped.
