Covid-19: China imposes fresh lockdown after hundreds infected

Beijing/IBNS: China has imposed a lockdown in Jiangsu province, after a cluster of infections in its capital, Nanjing city, spread to Beijing and five provinces by Friday.

At least 41,000 people came under stay-at-home orders in Beijing's Changping district due to this infection spread.

According to an AFP report, the cluster of infection has been linked to airport workers who cleaned a plane from Russia earlier this month.

The report said that at least 206 infections linked to the cluster have been reported in China and this is the biggest outbreak in the country in several months.

The Chinese administration faces a massive challenge as the Delta variant is far more transmissible than the pathogens that cause SARS, Ebola and smallpox, and as easily spread as chickenpox, an internal US Centers for Disease Control presentation reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times, according to the AFP report.
