China confirms detaining missing Interpol chief

| @indiablooms | Oct 08, 2018, at 10:54 am

Beijing, Oct 8 (IBNS): Putting speculations to rest, China has confirmed the detention of missing Interpol chief, Meng Hongwei.

Beijing said in a statement that it has arrested the global body security head on grounds of breaching Chinese laws.

Hongwei went missing on Sept 25, after travelling to China from France.

Meanwhile, Interpol has confirmed that it has received a letter of resignation from Hongwei.

His resignation, with immediate effect, was tendered on Sunday.

Grace Meng, Hongwei's wife, said that she received a knife emoji text on social media from her husband, on the day he went missing.

The Interpol will hold a vote to elect its next head in a meeting in November in Dubai.
