Dhaka: Divers have pulled three bodies out of the Shitalakshya river after a launch sank upon being struck by a freight vessel Bangladesh's Narayanganj region on Sunday, media reports said.

The launch was reportedly carrying 50 passengers when the mishap occurred.

The victims, who are yet to be identified by name, were two girls aged 10 and 16 and a 28-year-old woman, according to Rozina Akhter, an official at the Fire Service Control Room told bdnews24.

Members of the Coast Guard, River Police and BIWTA are conducting search operations at present.

The accident occurred near the coal market in the Sonakanda area around 2 pm on Sunday, Moniruzzaman, chief of Narayanganj Sadar River Police Station, told bdnews24.

A cargo vessel named the MV Rupshi-9 struck the launch, he said.
