Unknown motorcyclists in Pakistan's Hasilpur region on Monday shot dead a local Ahmadiyya community leader.

The deceased leader was identified as  Ahmadiyya community Hasilpur tehsil President Tahir Iqbal.

He was 54.

Two bike-borne attackers reportedly stopped him when he was on his morning walk in Chak-84 and gunned him down.

Police registered a case against unidentified motorcyclists.

A member of the community said they were facing hatred in Pakistan.

“We as members of the Ahmadiyya Community demand that the culprits involved in this heinous act should be punished according to the law and there must be a course of action so that these atrocities can come to a halt,” he told Dawn News.

Bahawalpur DPO Syed Abbas Shah told Dawn that the initial investigation suggested that the victim was shot dead for an honour-related matter.
