Islamabad, Aug 10 (UNI) An earthquake measuring 5.5-magnitude hit parts of Pakistan on Saturday morning, the country's National Seismic Monitoring Center said.

According to the center, the quake struck at 11:43 a.m. local time, with the epicenter determined at Afghanistan-Tajikistan border located off Pakistan's northwest border areas. The quake's depth was 70 km.

The strong tremors were felt in different areas of the country, including northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, capital Islamabad and some districts of eastern Punjab province, Xinhua said quoting local media.

The tremors created panic among people who rushed to the open places. However, no loss of life or property has been reported yet.

Pakistan has worse history of serious earthquakes, as it is located at one of the most earthquake-prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes.

Saturday's quake is the second quake above 5.0-magnitude, hitting Pakistan over the last three days. Earlier on Thursday, a 5.9-magnitude quake originating from Hindu Kush range hit the same areas.
