Kabul, May 6 (Xinhua/UNI) Three children have been killed and two others wounded in a landmine explosion in Afghanistan's western province of Herat, the government said on Monday.

"The incident occurred in Chah-e-Kohsani village, Gulran district on Sunday and the landmine was planted by the Taliban insurgents," Presidential Information Coordination Center (Tawhid Center) said in a statement.

The victims' families were notified shortly after the incident and the injured were shifted by security forces to the district hospital.

The Afghan civilians continue to bear the brunt of armed conflicts as more than 3,800 civilians were killed and over 7,180 others injured in conflict-related incidents in 2018, according to figures released by the United Nations mission in the country.

Of the casualties, 927 children were killed and 2,135 wounded last year.
