Ziggy Stardust David Bowie dies at 69

London, Jan 11 (IBNS) Legendary British singer-songwriter David Bowie died two days after his 69th birthday, the day he released his 25th album, after battling cancer for 18 months.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief," was mentioned on the late singer's official Facebook page.
 
Bowie's son Duncan Jones tweeted: "Very sorry and sad to say it's true.  I'll be offline for a while."
 
The creator of glam rock, "the first post-modern rock star," according to BBC music reporter Mark Savage, Bowie is known for his hit albums such as Heroes, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, the Spiders from Mars, Hunky Dory, Low, Diamond Dogs, etc. 
 
British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie. He was a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right. A huge loss."
 
Kanye West posted: "David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime."
 
Cher tweeted, "Devasted...A legend is gone."
