Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' sets Box Office on fire, inks Rs 150 crore on opening day worldwide

Southern superstar Rajinikanth's latest release movie Coolie has set a new benchmark for Tamil movies by earning around Rs 150 crore worldwide, early trade reports suggest.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Coolie has scored an estimated 75-80+ crores gross on its first day in India. Thalapathy Vijay's Leo is currently the record Tamil opener domestically with around 76 crores gross. At the overseas box office, early estimates suggest 75+ crores opening for Coolie, making it a 150+ crores worldwide debut, which is a record for Tamil cinema.

The trade website mentioned Coolie dominated with an estimated around 28-30 crore gross in Tamil Nadu, which is one of the biggest starts in the state.

The final figure has not been revealed so far.

The movie is expected to set the Box Office on fire over the Independence Day weekend.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, the movie hit the silverscreen on August 14, on Independence Day eve.

Rajinikanth will play the character of a 'coolie' in the movie.

The film stars Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Rachita Ram, Kanna Ravi and others with Aamir Khan.
