‘I was called cocky’: Dakota Johnson says a simple handshake cost her a role
Dakota Johnson revealed how a simple act of courtesy once cost her a role, recalling an audition experience where her manners were misinterpreted.
Speaking in an interview with Hits Radio, Johnson narrated how greeting people politely ended up working against her.
What was the incident?
Without naming the film, Johnson recounted walking into an audition room where she introduced herself and shook hands with those present as a gesture of courtesy.
However, she later learned that her behaviour did not go down well with the panel.
“And the feedback I got was that because I had gone and introduced myself and shook everyone’s hand, that I was, like, pompous, that I was schmoozing and full of myself,” she said.
How did Johnson react to it?
Taken aback by the feedback, the actress said, “I was like, what? I didn’t get the job because they said that I was being cocky.”
Reflecting on the incident, the 36-year-old added, “I just had manners.”
When did Johnson share the story?
Johnson shared the anecdote while promoting the UK release of her film Splitsville.
An American rom-com, Splitsville explores themes of friendship, infidelity, and the complexities of open relationships.
The film also features Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Michael Angelo Covino in key roles.
