Uganda visit productive, says PM Modi
Kampala, July 25 (IBNS): Describing his Uganda visit as "productive," Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said it will cement the relationship between the two nations.
"My visit to Uganda has been productive. I express gratitude towards President @KagutaMuseveni and the people of Uganda for their kindness through the visit," Modi tweeted.
" This visit will lead to further cementing of bilateral relations, particularly giving a strong impetus to economic ties," he said.
The PM is scheduled to address the Ugandan Parliament in capital Kampala on Tuesday. It will be the first such address by an Indian Prime Minister.
Modi is in Uganda on the second leg of his three-nation tour to Africa.
On Monday night, he interacted with the Indian diaspora in Kampala, saying that India is emerging as a global manufacturing and start-up hub.
Modi asserted that many of the 'Made-in-India' products, including cars and smartphones, are today exported to nations from whom the country used to import.
The Prime Minister also hailed India's ties with Uganda and other African nations, saying the resource-rich continent is now in the centre of his government's foreign policy. He announced that India will open 18 new embassies, taking the total number of the country's missions in Africa to 47.
At the event, Modi and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni also unveiled a bust of India's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Earlier, both leaders held delegation-level talks and signed four MoUs in defence co-operation and other areas.
