Rahul files nomination from Amethi

Amethi, Apr 12 (IBNS) Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday filed his nomination from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul is seeking re-election for a third consecutive term from Amethi.

He was accompanied by his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi and his brother-in-law Robert Vadra.

"Amethi is like my family, I worked here with the people of Amethi for their development. I am sure I will win by a huge margin from here," said Rahul after filing his nomination.

Earlier, Rahul faced a hurdle with the district administration rejecting the application of his residence proof, said media reports on Thursday.

According to a CNN IBN report, Rahul needed a bank account in Amethi as proof of his residence as per the rules of the Election Commission as notified in 2011.

Quoting the district magistrate, the channel reported that Rahul did not have an identity proof and needed a bank account as proof. Rahul had to prove that he stays there occasionally.

Rahul had won two terms from the seat but this time he faces challengers like Smriti Irani of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and  Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas.
