PM Modi at Sant Kabir's place, assails opposition for opportunistic politics

Maghar, Uttar Pradesh, Jun 28 (IBNS) : Launching a campaign to counter the tirade directed against him on Dalit issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attacked the opposition for its brand of politics, swearing by the name of Sant Kabir and speaking out from an obscure Uttar Pradesh village, where the 15th century mystic poet spent his last days.

"People who claim to follow Kabir are more worried about big bungalows," PM Modi said, attacking former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav over the recent bungalow row.

He also said that some political parties want chaos by creating doubts in people's minds for political gains. However, they are "cut off from the ground reality"

"Those who talk of Samajwad and Bahujan are only concerned about how to wrest power... They will lie and harm the well-being of people just to come to power," Modi said slamming the joint opposition.

He reminded the people that those who imposed Emergency and those who were against it, are now trying to forge alliances.

"Those who couldn't stand the sight of the other are now standing shoulder to shoulder -- not for your benefit, but their personal gains by somehow coming to power. All they are interested in is how to loot and make money," he added.

"Sant Kabir did not believe in castes... he believed everyone is equal... We aim to take Kabir's wisdom to the masses and include it in shaping a New India," said the Prime Minister, after paying his respects to the saint on his 500th death anniversary.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi offered 'chadar' at the 'Mazar' of Sant Kabir Das and laid the foundation stone of a research institute named after the mystic poet, who still has a great influence on society.

Modi also visited the Sant Kabir cave and unveiled a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone of the Kabir Academy, which will highlight the saint's teachings and philosophy.
