No approval required to probe top officials over corruption: SC

New Delhi, May 6 (IBNS): The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ruled that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) can probe a corruption case against an officer of joint secretary-rank or above, scrapping the earlier legal provision which made sanction of competent authority mandatory for the investigating agency.
The apex court has quashed the provision of Section 6A of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act as unconstitutional.
 
The provision made it mandatory for the CBI to get prior sanction form the Centre to probe against an officer of joint secretary-rank or above.
 
The Act was made invalid by the court.
