Massive landslides kill 9 in Manipur

Imphal, July 11 (IBNS): At least 9 people, including 7 children, were killed in massive landslides in three different places in Manipur’s Tamenglong district on Wednesday morning.

The landslides were triggered by torrential rains which lashed Neigailuang, New Salem and Ramgailong in Tamenglong town in early hours today.

Apart from the deceased, two people are said to be missing.

According to the reports, five children of a family died at New Salem area under Tamenglong ward no 4, while two other children of a family were killed by rising water levels.

Meanwhile, a mother and her son died after their house was destroyed in a landslide at Neigailuang area under Tamenglong ward no 2.

A search operation has been initiated by a joint team comprising of soldiers from Assam Rifles, the locals and members of the district administration, who are looking for the missing individuals at Ramgailong area.
