Indian high commission thanks Sri Lankan clergy for praying for India
New Delhi: The Indian High Commission in Colombo has expressed “sincere gratitude” to the Sri Lankan Budhist clergy and people of the island nation that have been praying for the wellbeing of India, reported Colombopage.
Clergy across all communities in Sri Lanka have been organizing special prayer meetings, including chanting of holy mantras in temples, for India which has been battling a disastrous Covid-19 wave.
Releasing a statement on Thursday, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said, “The High Commissioner and officials serving at the mission are overwhelmed by numerous calls and messages they have received, in addition to the special ceremonies that are being organized in different parts of Sri Lanka, for the health and well-being of people of India.”
Earlier, in his letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, while expressing solidarity with the Indian government and people, had informed that the clergy in the largely Buddhist nation would recite mantras for India.
“High Commission is touched and humbled by these prayers and well wishes, which is a true reflection of the deep people-to-people connect and the millennia-old bonds between India and Sri Lanka,” the High Commission said in the statement.
