IMD issues thunderstorm warning in northern and eastern India

New Delhi, May 7 (IBNS): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of thunderstorm accompanied with squall in several parts of northern and eastern India on Tuesday.

The thunderstorm will be accompanied with gusty winds and moderate squall  having a speed between 50 to 70 kmph.

The thunderstorm is likely to affect isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

In a weather update, the IMD stated, "Under the influence of a Western Disturbance; a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a west­east trough from northwest Rajasthan to central Madhya Pradesh in lower levels,  thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and moderate squall (speed between 50 to 70 kmph)  is very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours."

Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the same period.

Following the IMD warning, the Delhi government has decided to close all evening schools on Tuesday.

They have also put search and rescue teams on standby.
