Fresh firing heard from Pathankot air base, jawan injured
Pathankot, Jan 3 (IBNS): Fresh firing was heard on Sunday morning from the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Punjab's Pathankot, a day after terrorists attacked the same in which seven soldiers were killed, media reports said.
However, no official confirmation has been received on the firing yet.
According to reports, a jawan has also been injured in the fresh firing on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the death toll of the security personnel in the terror attack on the IAF frontier base near Pathankot town in Punjab on Saturday rose to seven.
Four security personnel who were injured in Saturday's terror attack have died in hospital, taking the number of casualties to seven.
The terrorist attack on the air force base in Punjab's Pathankot district, believed to be carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed that seeks independence for Kashmir, earlier left three IAF men killed.
As the search operation is currently underway in the base on Sunday, security personnel have recovered bodies of all four terrorists, who were killed after a day-long gun-battle on Saturday, along with their weapons like AK 47s, mortars, grenade launchers and GPS (Global Positioning System) devices.
According to reports, the GPS devices recovered from the terrorists will be scrutinized to understand the route taken by the terrorists to enter the base at Pathankot.
The airbase, which serves as large military facility from where Russian-made fleet of MiG-21 fighter jets and Mi-35 attack helicopters fly, is still under combing operation.
The search operation is likely to get over by Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, President Pranab Mukhejree, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian leaders have condemned the attack.
Ending a day full of tensions, security forces neutralized terrorists who had attacked Pathankot air force base of India in Punjab on Saturday.
The attack occurred days after Narendra Modi visited Pakistan and met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
