DK Ravi death: Karnataka Home Minister rejects CBI probe

New Delhi, Mar 19 (IBNS): Even as the pressure is mounting up, the Karnataka government is not ready for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of senior IAS officer D K Ravi.

After Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's rejection, State Home Minister KJ George on Thursday said no to a CBI probe in the case.

Ravi's parents are rigorously demanding a CBI probe and also threatened to commit suicide if their demands are not met, said reports.

They even protested outside the Karanataka Assembly as they believe Ravi succumbed to pressure.

"The parents are also demanding a CBI probe. There are so many people in the state who are asking for it. As the CM of the state, is it not Siddaramaiah's responsibility to fulfill their demand," BJP leader Sadananda Gowda told media.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the Centre is ready for a CBI inquiry into the death of D K Ravi.

He said he has spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the issue.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Singh said: "The Karnataka CM has told me that after getting a report in 2 days, he will be briefing the Centre on the issue."

"The Centre is ready for a CBI inquiry into the matter," he said.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12:45 pm.

Bangalore has been witnessing protests over the death of the IAS officer and on Thursday ABVP workers reportedly clashed with the police during an agitation in the city, reports said.

D.K. Ravi was found dead in his residence in Bangalore city on Monday.

Ravi, who took on the sand mafia in the district, had allegedly received threat calls before his death.

He was the Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement).

Bangalore Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi earlier told reporters: "Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide."

No suicide note was found, the police said.

Ravi was a 2009 batch IAS officer.
