Kanpur/Kannauj/UNI: The teams of Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) till Saturday evening recovered around Rs 240 crore and jewellery during searches at multiple locations across Kanpur and Kannauj allegedly linked to the owner of Kanpur-based Trimurti Fragrance Private Limited Piyush Jain.

Sources said that searches at Kanpur residence had been stopped for a while, but it continued at the ancestral house and factory of the Itra businessman.

Around Rs 240 crore has been recovered from both the premises of Jain.

While in Kanpur the total amount has increased to Rs 179 crore, another 58 crores and jewellery in huge quantities have been recovered in Kannauj.

Sources said that as of now, DGGI officials have kept Piyush Jain under custody.

From Kannauj, Jain was brought to Sarvoday Nagar office in Kanpur late evening and he was taken to an undisclosed location.

Sources said that Piyush Jain's son is also in custody separately and was being questioned.

Reports received from Kannauj stated that the DGGI team reached Chiptti locality of Kannauj on Friday evening where searches were conducted at the Itra and compound trader throughout the night.

Jain's house was the center of the investigation.

Saturday morning a six-member team arrived from Kanpur with five-six bags.

It is being said that nine drum sandal oil, a cardboard box containing currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination (around four and a half crore rupees), bundles of old Rs 10 notes, jewellery around one crore rupees and a bag containing keys have been recovered.

Two witnesses Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former Zila Panchayat member Nem Singh Yadav and Amit Mishra (both acquaintances of Piyush Jain) left in the morning after taking permission. Search picked up in the morning after a team arrived from Kanpur.

Piyush Jain and his brother Amrish Jain have a joint house in Chiptti locality.

The team from Kanpur also brought Piyush's son Priyansh and Amrish's son Molu. The team entered with two witnesses and searched the entire house.

When keys of a few almirahs were not found the team opened them using a cutter and recovered cash and documents.

In between after getting some information the team also searched the house of another Itra trader Ranu Mishra, located in Hori locality.

Both the traders supply compound and Itra to several states and foreign countries.
