A frontier corps soldier was killed and at least two others were injured when a bomb went off in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Friday.

The incident happened when unknown militants opened fire at a vehicle of paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) in Khyber district of the province, police officials from the area told Xinhua.

The security forces' vehicle was on a routine patrol in the area when it came under attack, the officials said, adding that the injured FC personnel have been transported to a nearby hospital.

Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to arrest the culprits.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
