Seven Afghan policemen killed in Taliban attack
Kabul/UNI: As many as seven Afghan policemen were killed in an attack by Taliban militants in the country's western Ghor province on Friday night, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The incident happened late on Friday night, when Taliban militants launched an attack on a security checkpoint in Abak area of district Pasaband, district chief Fakhruddin Khan told Tolo News.
"Seven policemen were killed, one was wounded and another is missing in the attack led by Mullah Ahmad Shah, the Taliban's deputy shadow governor for Ghor and Mullah Mustaf the militants' divisional commander in the province," Khan said.
The officials said that the militants also suffered casualties in the clash, but gave no details.
The province located some 360 km west capital Kabul, has seen heavy clashes for several years.
Violence is still taking place in the war-torn country despite a peace deal signed between the United States and the Taliban in Qatar in late February, which paved the way for a phased withdrawal of US and other NATO forces from Afghanistan.
