Over 200 students were arrested by Rawalpindi police amid violent protests over the alleged rape of a student in Pakistani city of Lahore.

The police used batons and tear gas shells to remove the protesters.

Last week, reports related to the alleged rape of a private college student went viral on social media, prompting the police to arrest a security guard at the college who was allegedly involved in the incident, reported The Nation.

Students have been protesting against the incident across various colleges for the past several days.

Blaming PTI for spreading the 'fake news', Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz declared the alleged rape incident as 'fabricated'.
