Pakistan Elections: As Imran Khan surges ahead in the race, former wife Jemima Goldsmith tweets congratulations

Islamabad, July 26 (IBNS): Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, has wished him over a tweet, as news of his victory in the general elections is now a matter of time.

With the lionshare of the votes counted, Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged peerless, keeping way ahead of his rivals- former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and father-son-duo of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party.

In the tweet, Goldsmith, a journalist and film producer, referred to Khan as her sons' father.

"22 years later, after humiliations, hurdles and sacrifices, my sons’ father is Pakistan’s next PM. It’s an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief & refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place. Congratulations @ImranKhanPTI," she said.

"I remember IK’s 1st election in 1997- untested, idealistic & politically naive. I waited up for the call in LHR with 3 mo old Sulaiman, who I had lugged around the country. Eventually he called. “It’s a clean sweep" & after my gasp, “… the other way.” He roared with laughter," she reminisced.

However, ahead of the polls, Imran Khan's last wife Reham Khan had lashed out at him in a book where she also alleged that Khan had fathered a few illegitimate Indian children

Khan, a former world cup winning cricket captain of the Pakistan national team, stepped into politics in the 90's. But, it was only in the 2010s that he established himself as a hardcore politician.
