| @indiablooms | Apr 21, 2021, at 12:11 am

As the third wave of the Covid-19 hits Pakistan, the country is facing problems to cope with the rising demand for medical oxygen, reported The News. Asad Omar, the country’s planning minister, said supply lines are stressed.

Omar also heads the National Command and Operations Centre, the top body to manage the Covid-19 crisis in the country. Taking to Twitter, he said the critical care patients in the country are now above 4500, which is 30% higher than the peak in June last year.

"Hospital fill up continuing to grow. Critical care patients now above 4500, which is 30% higher than the peak in June last year. Oxygen supply capacity in the country is now under stress." he added.

He also warned people, saying they are making a huge mistake by not following Covid-19 appropriate behavior. On Monday,  the country reported over  5,000 new infections. Taking the national tally to 761,437.

As per the official data by the NCOC, 60,162 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours from which 5,512 tests returned positive.
