Around 177,000 people have been affected by the breakdown in power supply caused by the extreme weather conditions in Sri Lanka, an official of the power ministry informed.

Sulakshana Jayawardena, the spokesperson of the power ministry in Sri Lanka, said that there was a cumulative growth in the number of consumers who have been affected by power breakdowns within the last two days due to the adverse weather conditions that prevailed in the country.

He also informed that the Central Electricity Board has deployed several teams in affected areas to restore the power supply.

On Wednesday only, almost 76,000 consumers were affected by power breakdowns. However, the supply to most of the breakdowns was restored later, he claimed. Many power lines were disconnected due to trees and branches fell on the power lines.
