Islamabad, Apr 12 (Xinhua): At least one child was killed and eight people were injured on Friday evening in a blast in Chaman city of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, an official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Chaman Shafqat Anwar Shahwani told media that the blast took place at the busy market area located at the Mall Road in Chaman, the country's southwest city bordering Afghanistan.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the dead child and the injured to a hospital.

The official said that an explosive device was planted in a motorcycle and it was detonated with a remote-controlled device, adding that the death toll might further rise as three of the injured are in critical condition.

Local media reported that at least five security personnel were among the wounded. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Earlier in the day, at least 20 people were killed and over 40 others injured in a blast that hit a fruit and vegetable market in the country's southwestern city of Quetta.
