Kabul/Xinhua/UNI: Seventeen Taliban militants were killed and 12 militants wounded when government forces attacked their positions in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province, the country's Defense Ministry confirmed on Wednesday.

The ministry said in a statement that the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) supported by the Afghan Air Force targeted the Taliban from ground and air in Arezo, a locality on the outskirts of provincial capital Ghazni city on Tuesday.

The statement said two Taliban's control and command centers and some weapons and ammunition were destroyed.

The mountainous province has been the scene of heavy clashes in recent years.

Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid, a purported Taliban spokesman, claimed that the insurgents killed 10 government troops in Arezo of Ghazni on Tuesday.
