US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Rubio, joined the list of global dignitaries captivated by the beauty of the iconic Taj Mahal during their visit to the Mughal-era monument on Monday.

The couple spent over an hour exploring the historic complex in the northern Indian city of Agra. They were accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.

The Taj Mahal, the iconic 17th-century marble mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his queen, Mumtaz Mahal, has long attracted high-profile global leaders and dignitaries, including former US President Donald Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, during their visits to India.

Sharing photographs from the visit on X, Gor wrote, “Wonderful to be back at the iconic Taj Mahal with @SecRubio, @jeanettedr4 and Robert Gabriel. A breathtaking symbol of India’s extraordinary heritage and craftsmanship.”

Rubio is currently on a four-day visit to India and is scheduled to attend the upcoming Quad meeting on Tuesday.

He began his trip with a visit to Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata before heading to New Delhi for high-level meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Meanwhile, during a live event in New Delhi on Sunday marking the 250th Independence Day celebrations of the United States, Gor connected with Trump over the phone in the presence of Rubio and other dignitaries.

During the call, Trump praised Modi and described himself as a “big fan” of the Indian Prime Minister.

“India can count on me 100%. If they ever need help, they know where to call. We’re doing well, setting records with a record economy and a record stock market. Anything India wants, they can get. I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi,” Trump said.

He added, “Say hello to Prime Minister Modi and let him know I’m a big fan.”

Separately, Rubio reaffirmed the strength of the US-India relationship, describing it as far more than a traditional alliance.

Speaking during delegation-level talks with Jaishankar in New Delhi on Sunday, Rubio emphasized that the partnership between the two nations is deep, evolving, and built on long-term strategic cooperation across multiple regions.
