Local terrorists responsible for Dhaka siege: Bangladesh Govt
Dhaka, July 3 (IBNS): In a recent development, the Bangladesh government on Sunday said that it was not terror group ISIS but all local terrorists responsible for the brutal siege attack in Dhaka's upscale restaurant Gulshan, which left 20 hostages killed, media reports said.
The hostages were taken by members of a homegrown Bangladeshi militant group and not followers of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, a senior minister of Bangladesh told media.
While it was initially believed that terror outfit ISIS carried out the attack, but according to reports, the terrorists had also demanded release of two Jamaat-ul Mujahideen (JuM).
"We cannot say with certainty who carried out the attack," the Mayor of Dhaka Annisul Huq told NDTV.
The Bangladeshi Army on Saturday said that 20 people were killed by heavily armed terrorists after being taken hostage at a restaurant in the capital city Dhaka on Friday evening.
The people were kept hostage for nearly 10 hours in Dhaka's upscale restaurant Gulshan. The stand-off between Army and terrorists came to a end on Saturday morning.
The operation left six terrorists killed as well.
An Indian girl, who was taken hostage in the restaurant, also died in the terror attack in Dhaka, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed.
As the operation came to an end, 13 captives, including three foreigners, were rescued.
