Iran closes border with Afghanistan in Nimroz amid spike in conflicts

| @indiablooms | Aug 09, 2021, at 03:20 pm

Kabul: Iran has closed the border with Afghanistan in Nimroz province amid rising conflicts in the war-torn country.

The crossing point in the Milak district of Sistan and Baluchestan province has been closed due to a surge in violence in the neighboring Nimroz province, Khaama Press reported.

The development occurred just days after Taliban insurgents captured the southwestern Nimroz province.

According to Khaama Press report, the incident  obliged tens of families to cross the border into Iran from the provincial capital of Zaranj city.

Apart from the citizens of Zaranj city, Afghan government security forces also fled to Iran along with their armored and non-armored vehicles but the Afghan defense ministry denied the escape, reports the news agency.

Afghanistan has been witnessing a spike in violence ever since the foreign forces started leaving the country.

The Taliban has captured several key cities in the country in recent weeks.
