Islamabad/UNI: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, speaking at the World Economic Forum at Davos on Wednesday, made a strong pitch for promoting tourism in his country which hosts the remains of one of the oldest civilizations of the world.

Khan was pained to describe his country as one of the least discovered destinations.

However, the Pakistan PM stated that in recent times, the tourism to the south-Asian country increased due to his government’s decisions which led to prevalence of peace.

Pakistan’s tourism industry has witnessed a revival in recent years, according to Condé Nast Traveller magazine, which states that tourist traffic in the country increased three times over the past five years. The magazine stated that the number of foreign tourists visiting Pakistan tripled between 2013 and 2016.

Retreating that Pakistan can collect a lot of revenue from tourism, Khan identified lack of infrastructure as the biggest roadblock in the way of the country's development.

Pakistan, home of ancient civilization, Himalayan peaks, forts and cuisine, failed to harness its tourist potential due to militancy, insurgency and lack of development.
