Human Rights Commission of Pakistan backs Balochistan employees' demand to increase pay
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has backed protesting government employees in Pakistan's Balochistan province who are continuing to hold their sit-in following failed negotiation between the government and their representatives over the issue of salary hike.
"HRCP stands in solidarity with the #Balochistan Employees and Workers Grand Alliance. Their sit-in to demand a pay raise in the face of spiralling inflation is now in its fifth day and the government must listen," HRCP tweeted.

The protesters have been demonstrating for more than six days now.
Eight rounds of talks have remained fruitless because the employees have refused to call off their protest until the official notification about 25 per cent increase in their salaries is issued, reports Dawn News.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said that Balochistan would face an additional burden of Rs10-15 billion if demands of the protesting employees were met, the newspaper reported.
The leaders of the employees’ grand alliance on Saturday gave the government 24 hours for acceptance of their demands and threatened to block all highways in Balochistan if the demands remain unmet, Dawn News reported.
“We will block all national highways linking Balochistan with the rest of the country, if the provincial government fails to issue a notification about 25 per cent increase in our salaries and meet our other demands,” Abdul Salam, secretary general of the Government Employees and Workers Alliance, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
