| @indiablooms | Sep 28, 2024, at 05:39 am

The killing of a Japanese schoolboy in China has triggered tension among the community which is beefing up security following the attack.

The incident occurred a week ago in Shenzhen city.

The 10-year-old child was on his way to a Japanese school when he was attacked by a male assailant on September 18, reported NHK.

The Chinese government did not reveal the exact motive behind the attack so far.

The incident has triggered fear among Japanese expatriates.

A man in his 30s engaged in trade-related business in Shenzhen told NHK that he has become nervous when walking alone, and that the city is no longer a place he can consider living over the long term.

Recently, the Japanese Ambassador to China visited Dalian in the northeastern province of Liaoning when he urged Dalian Communist Party Secretary Xiong Maoping to beef up the security of the Japanese school.

Ambassador Kanasugi Kenji said the fatal stabbing incident deteriorated the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

He called the situation "extremely serious."
