Kabul: A Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Asad Qaiser, was turned back from Kabul on Thursday as their plane was refused landing permission citing “security reasons, media reports say.

Security personnel discovered an unexploded bomb buried inside the airport area. Flight operations remained suspended for many hours on Thursday. Later, the coalition forces in Afghanistan performed a controlled explosion.

Local media reports say the bomb was there for a while. And it might have gone undetected for years as the country has been at war for four decades now.

Dawn reported Pakistani speaker Qaiser, upon their return to Pakistan, received a phone call from Afghan parliament Speaker Mir Rahman Rehmani. He informed that the security of the Pakistani delegation was above every other business. He also explained why the plane was refused to land there.

The Pakistan delegation had gone to Afghanistan on the invitation of the Afghan speaker.

Qaiser assured the Afghan speaker that he would soon visit Afghanistan as the security situations improved. He also conveyed that Pakistan would continue to play its role in achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan.
