COVID-19: Bangladesh government imposes strict mask wearing measures
Dhaka: The Bangladesh government has decided not to provide its service to any person who is not wearing a mask, a measure taken to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in the nation.
“Instructions have been given at all-levels, to all of our institutions—social, organisational or formal institutions—that no mask, no service. Masks must be used in all institutions, haats, markets, shopping malls, schools, and social and religious gatherings. We’ve made it compulsory,” cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam was quoted as saying by Prothom Alo.
Besides, the Islamic Foundation has been instructed to ask the imams of mosques for spreading the message after prayers—at least twice a day—that wearing masks is a government order, the Bangladeshi newspaper reported.
Bangladesh is one nation in South Asia where the pandemic has hit badly.
In the past 24 hours, the country has registered 1,308 new cases.
The latest tally has taken the tally to 398,815.
The death toll climbed to 5,803 after 23 fatalities were registered in the 24 hours to 8 am Sunday, the government said in a statement as quoted by bdnews24.
Since the first reported case in China, the virus has now spread in more than 210 countries.
