Congratulating Sikhs, PM Imran Khan says Kartarpur Corridor is Pakistan's symbol of peace

| @indiablooms | Nov 09, 2019, at 07:53 pm

Islamabad/UNI: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday congratulated the Sikh community residing on both the sides and the world over on the opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and said that the historic act is a testimony to Pakistan's commitment to regional peace.

The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor will link Dera Baba Nanak in India's Gurdaspur to Durbar Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan's Kartarpur in a historic people-to-people initiative with a glimmer of hope that it would strengthen the strained ties of both the countries.

The PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) leader said that the significance of this event on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, is well understood by the Muslims as they know what it means to visit holy places.

He said, "we believe that the road to prosperity of region and bright future of our coming generation lies in peace."

"Today we are not only opening the border, but also our hearts for the Sikh community," he said.

Prime minister Khan further said that the unprecedented gesture of goodwill from his government was a reflection of its deep respect for Baba Guru Nanak Dev and religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

"Pakistan believes that interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence would provide an opportunity to work for larger interests of the people of the sub-continent," he added.
