Islamabad, July 29 (IBNS): The caretaker government in Pakistan has directed jail authorities to shift former country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after his health deteriorated, media reports said on Sunday.

Doctors conducted a check-up of the former premier after he complained of chest pain and advised that he be shifted to a coronary care unit (CCU) immediately, sources told Geo News.

"In light of the additional chief secretary's report, the caretaker government decided to shift Nawaz to PIMS," sources in the Interior Ministry told the news channel.

"Nawaz's electrocardiogram (ECG) was conducted and showed changes as per the medical report," sources said.

"Preparations have been completed to shift the former premier to PIMS from Adiala jail," the sources added.

A medical board formed on July 24 to ascertain the health condition of the former PM.

The board had said Nawaz Sharif needed constant medical care and attention.

Nawaz Sharif jailed:

In a major blow to Nawaz Sharif ahead of the general elections, a Pakistani court on July 6 handed over the former Prime Minister of the country 10 years jail term over his family’s purchase of upscale London flats.

Sharif was awarded ten years of jail and fined eight million pounds by the Pakistani court.

Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam, who is also a prominent political figure in Pakistan,  was also sentenced to eight years in jail and fined two million pounds by the court.

They were arrested on July 13 after they reached Pakistan from London.

They are currently lodged in Adiala jail in Pakistan.
