Bangladesh reports highest daily rise of 2,523 COVID-19 cases

Dhaka/UNI: Bangladesh on Friday confirmed 2,523 new cases of COVID-19, the highest single day rise since the start of the pandemic in the country on March 8, bringing the total to 42,844.

Professor Nasima Sultana, a senior health ministry official, told an online media briefing in Dhaka that "the total number of positive cases now stands at 42,844 and the death toll has reached 582."

She said that 23 more people died due to the pandemic in the last 24 hours. The deaths include 19 men and four women. local media reported.

According to the official, 11,301 samples have been tested in 49 labs in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

In the same period 590 more patients were released from hospitals and clinics after recovering from the virus, bringing the number of recovered patients in the country to 9,015, she said.
