Dhaka: The National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh has condemned the recent attack on Hindu community members in the country and said such an incident in  a secular country is not acceptable.

The commission made the remarks in a Suo Moto order regarding the recent vandalizing of temples in Narail, reports Dhaka Tribune.

In its order, the commission directed the home ministry to probe whether there was any negligence in the attack on the temples and whether the police did its duty accordingly, the newspaper reported.

The Public Security Division of the ministry has been asked to submit the report within August 17 and take legal steps accordingly, the newspaper reported.

A house and 4/5 shops belonging to minority community were vandalized at Dighalia village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district over insult to the Prophet of Islam on Facebook page by a boy of minority community.

Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman said, Akash Saha, aged 16, son of Ashok Saha of the village, from his Facebook ID made derogatory remarks against Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Friday night.

As local Muslims knew about the matter, they were angered and later they vandalized the boy’s house and 4/5 other shops of local minority community at about 8:15 pm.

As the tension prevailed high, the boy fled away.

His father was kept under police custody as part of ensuring his safety.

Elite force RAB and police have been deployed in the hindu-dominated area to maintain law and order situation there.

Local civil society activists also visited the spot to maintain communal harmony.
