Bangladesh: Mosque explosion death toll rises to 24

Dhaka/UNI: Three more people who sustained burn injuries due to an explosion at a mosque in Narayanganj, died on Sunday, taking the death toll from the incident to 24.

The latest three victims were identified as Mohammad Ali Master, 55, 35 year old Zulhas and 45 year old Shamim Hasan confirmed Partha Shanker, residential surgeon at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Other people who have lost their lives are Nadim, 45, Md Abdul Malek, 60, Imam ofthe mosque, Mizan, 34, Bahar Uddin, 55, Russel, 34, Md Nayan, 27, Kanchan Hawlader, 53, Rifat, 18, Mostofa Kamal, 34, Jubayer,18, Sabbir, 21, Quddus Bepari, 72, Humayun Kabir, 70, Ibrahim, 43, Delwar Hossen, 48, Junaed, 17, Jamal, 40, Joynal Abedin, 40,Maenuddin, 12, and Jewel, 7.

Currently 13 people who suffered burn injuires are receiving treatment at the burn institute.

Six blasts took place at the Baitus Salah Jame Mosque in Sadar upazila of Naryangonj during Isha prayer on Friday night, injuring more than 50 Muslim worshippers.

37 critically injured were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Visiting the spot, Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Abdullah Al Arefin said accumulated gas inside the mosque from a pipeline leak may have caused the blast.

Three probe bodies were formed by the fire service, civil defence, Titas Gas authorities and the district administration regading the incident.
